Two ex-Georgia golfers advance at U.S. Amateur

ERIN, Wis. -- Harris English led the Georgia contingent at the U.S. Amateur Championship on Wednesday, advancing through stroke play and winning his first match in match play.
English -- who recently competed his UGA career and will represent the United States in the Walker Cup -- was tied for 31st at 4 under (73-67) after two rounds of stroke play, and then beat Andrew Yun in his round of 64 match, 3 and 1.
His fellow former Bulldog and Walker Cup teammate Russell Henley was tied for third after stroke play at 9 under (66-69) -- three strokes behind stroke-play leader Gregor Main -- and also advanced to match play. Henley led Kevin Dougherty 1 up through 12 holes when play was suspended due to darkness on Wednesday.
Three other Bulldogs competed in the event, but failed to reach the stroke play round.
Michael Cromie shot rounds of 67 and 77, but his 144 total fell two strokes past the cut line. Bryden Macpherson and Keith Mitchell both shot 148 and also failed to qualify.
The U.S. Amateur is being played all week at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf and Country Club, with match play continuing through Sunday's 36-hole finale.
Henderson book signing Friday at Clarke Central
Former Clarke Central coach Billy Henderson will be signing copies of the book, "The Winning Edge: Lessons From Billy Henderson" with author Aubrey Hammack before Friday's Clarke Central-Cedar Shoals game.
The signing will take place from 5-7:30 p.m. behind the pressbox at Clarke Central's Billy Henderson Stadium.

Police search LSU QB Jefferson's apartment
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Authorities searched LSU starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson's apartment Wednesday in connection with a bar fight last week that injured four people.
Jefferson was home at the time of the search.
